Jake Berkowitz
Jake was a beloved member of the Cheltenham community who battled cancer until November 2005. As a member of the class of 2000, Jake was an accomplished student and a dedicated member of the cross country and tennis teams. Jake’s love for running continued recreationally and was a source of joy during his time at Emory University and throughout his illness.
Jake was a man of unwavering faith, a faith that guided his compassion and kindness. Jake’s compassion extended beyond his family and friends to those in the community who were less fortunate. He actively worked in Philadelphia and Atlanta to help the homeless and cared for anyone in need. He was a friend without reservations.
Jake had faith in himself and in us all. His faith gave him strength to be a runner, strength to care for others, and strength to fight his illness. Showing your strength by running this race and supporting our area’s homeless residents will greatly honor his memory.
Proceeds to benefit the Physical Education Department and Athletic programs at Cheltenham High School & Back On My Feet, a Philadelphia based non-profit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of the homeless population by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.
